Macular Hole

Macular  hole is a localized defect of the sensory nerves in an area where the sharpest vision occurs. In other words, there is a gap/hole in the center of the macula which causes blurred central vision. The involved eye may have difficulties in reading  and seeing/recognizing the faces.  The surgical closure ratio and the improvement in vision is favorable in newly developed small holes. In large holes that have been present for a long time, the surgical success ratio is low. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment is extremely important in terms of preventing vision loss in macular holes.
